Afternoon Tea

By Anonymous - Posted on 05 May 2013

The Afternoon Tea,  raising funds for a classroom in Gakagati, Rwanda was an extravaganza in a style of bygone days. As well as tables groaning under the weight of a wide variety of sandwiches, cakes and scones, there were hot items such as sausage rolls or veggie rolls. But it was more than the food, the plates of which were replenished as soon as a space appeared. The tables were laid with 'real' tablecloths, teapots, cups, saucers and plates as well as cakestands. The waitresses, the three ladies going to Rwanda in September, were constantly on the go offering refills of tea and coffee, under the supervision of George!  All in all the afternoon raised over £360, with more to be added from the sale of sandwiches and cakes. What can't be measured is the sense of well being and friendship generated among those who came.
